The locomotive factory began to being activity in 1941 and since 1949 has
been performing the steam locomotive repairings. Since 1949 up to 1960 there
were manufactured tramways and electric locomotive for mining utilization.
Since 1960, there was started the manufacture of Diesel electric locomotives
of 2100 HP (based on Sulzer Brown-Boveri license) for Romanian Railways and
for being exported to Poland, Bulgaria and China. There have been
manufactured over 2400 locomotives of 2100 HP which have been in operation
over 25 years traveling over 4 million kilometers in very good operating
conditions.
At the same time, there was begun the locomotive manufacture based on a
large range of ALCO motors. The locomotive Diesel engines with outputs
ranging 1500-4000 HP were manufactured at Resita according to ALCO license.
Being utilized the technical documentation made available by Brush Company
in England, there were manufactured 30 pcs. Diesel electric locomotives of
3500 HP which were delivered to British Railways.
The more and more increasing request for locomotives hauling heavy trains
lead to the development of the most powerful locomotive which has ever been
manufactured in Romania: 5100 kW Co-Co electric locomotive. This locomotive
has been manufacture to ASEA Sweden license and intended to be utilized in
Romania but to be exported too (over 1050 pcs.).
In 1983, by a co-operation with ELECTROPUTERE Researching and Designing
Institute, there was manufactured the suburban electric multiple unit RES
1870 kW and in 1994 there was performed the prototype of a similar vehicle
but having higher performances, RES 2720 kW, equipped with equipment of
Romanian origin.
In order to come up to the requests come from metallurgy, in 1986 there were
performed the first electric locomotives for coal industry: LEMC 100 kW and
in 1987 there was manufactured the electric locomotive LEMC 60 kW as a
consequence of the request come from the lignite processing industry. There
also was manufactured in 1987 the hauling locomotive LEM 1200 kW for
Romanian Railways.
Railways and Urban Vehicle Division performs overhaul repairings to Diesel
electric locomotives of 2100 HP, to the electric ones of 3400 kW and to 5100
kW ones.
Starting from 1993, Railways and Urban Vehicle Division engaged to perform
repairings and modernization of metro electric trains (for METROREX), of
tramways and trolleybuses.
Besides the above presented activities, Railways and Urban Vehicle Division
performed locomotive metallic constructions for Adtranz, bogie frames for
Adtranz too and other types of metallic constructions.
