The increased demand for haulage of heavier and heavier trains emerging has resulted in the development of the most powerful locomotive ever constructed in Romania, the 5100kW , Co-Co electric locomotive.

This locomotive is being manufactured at license ASEA Swedish, and until now more than 1050 electric locomotives have been delivered in Romania and abroad.

In cooperation with Electroputere Research Institute, Railways and Urban Vehicles Division has manufactured the urban multiple unit of RES 1870kW type and in 1994 there was built the prototype of a similar but more performant vehicle RES 2720kW.

Beginning with 1993 the locomotive division has been engaged in performing overhaul repairings and modernisations of metro electric units, for Metrorex-Bucharest, tramways and trolleybuses.
