Upgrade DC traction motors

Upgrade means much more than repair. In Electroputere upgrading means bring the motor into a stage as close as possible to a new motor. An upgraded traction motor has a life-time of at least 90% of a new one. The motor is given a new life.
Electroputere is specialized in upgrading DC traction motors, even motors from other makers.
Electroputere has thoroughly developed prosesses for the upgrading (a part of the quality system) The processes below can vary due to the needs and the user's requirements.

Preconditions

  • Proper machinery, tools and instruments
  • Well proven and documented processes (don’t lean on skilled personnel only)
  • A proper workshop, clean, orderliness
  • Skilled, well trained, technically professional personnel

Step 1. Cleaning and disassembling

  • Cleaning the motor
  • Disassembling. Special tools and method are required to avoid damages
  • Washing and drying the parts

Step 2. Inspecting and specifying the work to be done

  • Trouble diagnosis
  • Reference documentation
  • Mechanic tests,check each part for conformity / non-conformity
  • Electrical tests, particularly the windings
  • Specify the work to be done

Step 3. Bring all parts into a stage of "as new"

Replace by new parts or re-machine the parts, such as

  • Brush-holders
  • Sleeve bearings
  • End shields
  • Frames

Step 4. Stator and rotor winding

  • Rewinding.Make new windings or partial repair of the old ones, but always a life time "as new"
  • Impregnation. The quality is secured by a accurate process and monitoring system
  • Tests after rewinding
  • Upgrade of the commutator

Step 5.Test and inspection

  • Before assembling all parts are tested or inspected according to the same standards as for new motors.

Step 6. Final assembling

  • Assembling of stator, rotor and the complete motor
  • Replacement of cables and fixings
  • Rotor balancing
  • New brushes
  • New bearings

Step 7. Final test

  • The motor is tested as new including load test
  • Final painting
